Warrant Out For Midnight Runner
Newcastle Herald
Tuesday September 29, 1998
A WARRANT was issued yesterday for the arrest of a man who has made a practice of booking accommodation around the State and skipping without paying.
Peter Townsend, 43, whose address was given as the Salvation Army hostel at Wickham, failed to appear in Newcastle Court yesterday for sentence on five charges of fraud.
Townsend pleaded guilty at a court appearance to five counts of failing to pay for accommodation and meals at motels at Lismore, Taree, Brunswick Heads, Ballina and Grafton between July 21 and August 10.
The court heard that Townsend had been charged with 25 similar offences since 1984, racking up almost $3000 in unpaid accommodation and meals across the State.
Magistrate Mr Michael Morahan issued a bench warrant yesterday for Townsend's arrest.
